Finding Work-Life Balance

Written by Jasmine Addison, Intern

Do you often find yourself struggling to keep up with the demands of both your work and personal life? Does it feel like there are never enough hours in the day to complete everything on your plate? If so, you’re not alone. Achieving work-life balance is a common challenge many of us face. The good news is finding a work-life balance is possible and obtainable.

1. Take Inventory

Identifying what you have on your plate and who your support system is allows you to see your responsibilities and where your help comes from. 1.

2. Prioritize your duties

Now is the time to prioritize all of your duties. During this step, you may need to let go of some things or delegate tasks. It’s important to adjust your list as needed based on your current season of life. Don’t hesitate to ask your family members to help out when necessary.

3. Create a schedule

This is where you create, organize, and implement your to-do list. You can plan for daily, weekly, or monthly tasks. For better organization, consider using a planner or your phone’s calendar, or you may even want to do a dry-erase board or big stational calendar.

4. Take a Break

We have all heard the saying, “You cannot pour from an empty cup.” This step is where you begin to listen to your body. What does your body need? What do you need? What can you do to energize yourself? Taking care of yourself ensures that you are at your best and able to pour into others without burning out.

5. Show yourself Grace

You are human, not a robot. Remember to always show yourself grace. Sometimes, you will not always be able to do everything for everyone, and you can be okay with that.
